Your Role in a Safe and Successful Move

A simple guide to help you prepare for moving day, reduce risk, and ensure everything runs smoothly from start to finish.

Preparing Properly Makes All the Difference on Moving Day

Every successful move starts with clear preparation. Our team will handle the heavy lifting and logistics on the day, but a few simple steps beforehand can make a real difference. The guidance below is designed to help you stay organised, minimise disruption, and keep your move running safely and on schedule.

1. Getting Everything Ready Before Moving Day

Clearly Identify What’s Moving and What Isn’t

Please make sure it’s clear which items are to be moved, which are staying in the property, and anything that’s being disposed of. This helps avoid confusion and allows the team to work efficiently on the day.

Have Packing Finished Before Moving Day (If You’re Packing Yourself)

If you’re handling your own packing, everything should be packed and ready before the team arrives. Clearly label each box with the room it belongs to at your new property, and ensure lids on bottles and jars are securely fastened. If you need additional boxes, just let us know in advance.

Keep Keys and Essentials Separate

Set aside all house, car, garage, and shed keys so they don’t get packed accidentally. We also recommend keeping important or high-value items such as medication, passports, and jewellery with you throughout the move.

Create a Kitchen Essentials Area

Keep everyday items such as a kettle, mugs, cutlery, plates, and basic cleaning supplies together so they’re easy to access during the move. Even if we’re packing for you, separating these items in advance can be a big help.

Prepare for Your First Night

Pack an overnight bag and keep it somewhere safe so it doesn’t get loaded by mistake. This should include clothing, toiletries, phone chargers, and anything you’ll want easy access to on your first night.

Loft Access and Safety

For safety reasons, our team can only access lofts that are fully boarded and fitted with a fixed ladder and lighting. If your loft doesn’t meet these requirements, please bring any items down before moving day.

Ensure Appliances Are Disconnected Before Moving Day

Please make sure any electrical or plumbed-in appliances are safely disconnected ahead of moving day. This includes items such as washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, cookers, and televisions, as our team isn’t insured to carry out these disconnections.

Prepare Fridges and Freezers in Advance

Please ensure fridges and freezers are fully defrosted at least 24 hours before moving day. We recommend using up food where possible, and placing anything that remains into clearly labelled, sealed bags.

Dismantle Large Items Before Moving Day

Items such as beds, cots, wardrobes, garden furniture, sheds, and shelving should be taken apart before the team arrives, unless agreed in advance. Curtains, mirrors, and pictures should also be removed ahead of time.

Items We’re Unable to Move

For safety reasons, we’re unable to transport hazardous or flammable items such as gas bottles, petrol, paint, thinners, fireworks, firearms, or corrosive substances. Fuel must also be fully drained from equipment like lawnmowers and strimmers before the move.

Children & Pets Recommendation

For everyone’s safety, we recommend making arrangements for young children and pets to be kept out of busy areas during the move. If you’re moving with a cat or dog, securing them in a quiet, safe space before the team arrives can help keep things calm

2. Access, Parking and Moving Day Logistics

Parking Arrangements at Collection and Delivery Addresses

Please ensure there is suitable parking available for our vehicle at both the property you’re moving from and your new address. Our removal vehicles require space equivalent to several parked cars. If access is limited, let us know in advance so alternative arrangements can be discussed, which may involve an additional cost.

Delays and Waiting Time

We plan to start unloading as soon as we arrive at your new property. If access isn’t available straight away – for example, if keys haven’t been released – waiting time is charged at £50 per hour.

A Few Final Things to Be Aware Of

Unwanted or Unused Items

Any items you don’t wish to take with you will need to be removed or donated in advance, as our team isn’t able to dispose of unwanted belongings.

Payment Details

Payment for your move must be settled in full no later than seven days before the scheduled moving date. We accept bank transfer, debit card, and credit card payments, with a 3% fee applying to credit cards. Cheque payments should be received at least 14 days prior to the move.

Cancellations and Changes to Your Booking

If you need to cancel or rearrange your move after confirming your booking, cancellation charges may apply. These are calculated as follows:

  • Five working days’ notice: 60% of the removal charge
  • Less than 24 hours’ notice: 90% of the removal charge

Final Walk-Through

Before we set off, please take a final look around to ensure all items have been packed and removed. This includes checking drawers, cupboards, lofts, sheds, garages, and any outbuildings. Anything left behind may result in additional charges.
