5 Top removal tips

Moving home can be a daunting task and very stressful.
Planning in advance and getting organised means less stress.
My 5 top removal tips to ensure your home move is an exciting time not a stressful time.

De - Clutter in advance

By decluttering before moving house, you will be amazed at how much simpler the move becomes. Donate, sell or throw away items you no longer need.
There are many benefits to decluttering before you move.

  • You'll save money. The less it will cost to move it. You will spend less on packing supplies and removal costs.
  • You will make money by selling things you no longer need.
  • You will save time and energy packing and unpacking.
  • Your new home will be easier to organise and clean.
  • You will not bring the clutter with you and fill your new home with it!

Start early - Packing

Packing your home can be very time consuming, which is why its better to start as early as possible.
Start with rooms you use the least and items you no longer need, this will cause less disruption.
Use small boxes for books and fragile items.
Try not to over pack your boxes as you risk the box falling apart and potentially damaging your belongings.
Label the box with the room you intend it to go in your new home.

Dismantle furniture

You will be more prepared for your move by dismantling your furniture that will not fit down the stairs or out the door.
This will save you a lot of stress, keeping your move on schedule and your door way unjammed!
Remember to keep any loose fixings in a safe place.

Organise utilities

It's so easy to forget to take final meter readings, but it will make everything so much easier.
You can register with new broadband providers in advance, and don't forget gas, electric and water.
If your not staying with the same provider in your new home, it's worth notifying them that the house has been sold and the account has finished.
Also remember to put yourself on the electrol register at your new property, and update any relevant ID, like your driving license.

Cleaning a house before you move in is the ideal way to go, since you won't have the added difficulty of needing to work around furniture or boxes.
If you can manage to arrange some overlap in when you get keys to your new home and leaving your old one, it can make a world of difference to your stress levels.
If they isn't an overlap ask your removal company if this can be factored in on the day of your move.
